Instructions

This is best viewed in Full Screen. If you are using a Promethean board, use the 'web controller'. If you are using Internet Explorer click on 'View' (top left) then 'Full Screen'. (to get beck to a normal view of Internet Explorer click on the 2 boxes on the top right). You can also use the button F11 to go from full screen view and back.

Click on the link above and enter the Discovery Centre. This will take you to the main page.

About this resource

This resource is a virtual representation of the Discovery Centre in Cleethorpes consisting of digital images and text. It was created using Clicker 4 software and is available for use on both the PC and Mac platforms. It has ben converted here to web pages.
The virtual discovery centre has been created as a joint project by Pat Shuttleworth (teacher at Queen Mary Avenue Primary) and Yvonne Walker (Primary Consultant for ICT). It was adapted for the Internet by Nicola Worrell.

Key Stage 1 Science Objectives

  • To know that plants and animals are living things.
  • To know and understand the vocabulary related to plants and animals.
  • To know that there are different types of plants and animals in the local environment.
  • To know that we should treat plants, animals and the environment with care and sensitivity.
  • To know that there are differences between local habitats.
    To make predictions about the plants and animals found in different local habitats.
  • T o make careful observations, identify similarities in plants and animals.
  • To know that living things in the environment can be grouped according to observable similarities and differences.

Key Stage 1 Literacy Objectives

  • To understand the differences between fact and fiction.
  • To be able to read for information.
  • To read and use captions and labels.
  • To understand and use pictures and labelled diagrams.
  • To understand the terms blurb, title, illustration etc.
  • To recognise sentences, capital letters, full stops and speech marks.
  • To understand the purpose of contents pages.
  • To read with understanding.
  • To locate parts of text that give particular information.
