The Music and Performing Arts team fulfils a number of roles within the Learning and Childcare Directorate.
These include:-

  • Managing and monitoring arrangements for the provision of instrumental and vocal tuition within North East Lincolnshire schools.
  • Woking with Music Lincs the local co-operative of self employed music teachers to develop instrumental and vocal teaching in schools
  • Providing guidance to schools, governors and parents on all aspects of instrumental and vocal tuition
  • Encouraging children to play less popular instruments through the "Specialist Instrument Scheme"
  • Providing a wide range of quality instruments for pupils to play at minimal cost
  • Enabling the purchase of musical instruments for tuition at discounted rates and with interest free credit terms
  • Promoting workshops and courses to develop the widest range of musical experiences
  • Working with the Music Curriculum Education Development Officer to support music in the curriculum throughout North East Lincolnshire schools
  • Providing medium and large scale Arts education events at venues throughout North East Lincolnshire
  • Supporting an extensive Artists in school programme involving Theatre, Dance, Media, Circus and multi-art activities
  • Providing training and support for both teachers and students in the Performing Arts curriculum.

Jane Chidwick

Jane Chidwick is responsible for the administration of projects both large and small. Jane trained as a dancer and has an excellent understanding of the relationships between visiting Artists and schools. Often working to tight deadlines she is the friendly voice who answers enquiries from schools and members of the public. Jane cannot do the impossible but she is always willing to try! Linda Upton

Linda Upton deals with financial matters and the monitoring processes of service provisions. Linda is responsible for departmental procedures and provides the voice of sanity which underpins the creative team. Linda can be contacted on 01472 323118 or by email at musicservice@nelincs.gov.uk

Gemma Halliday

Gemma Halliday is responsible for the management of the many resources, which are accessible from the team. Musical instrument hire, insurance and purchase schemes all play a part in supporting young people throughout North East Lincolnshire to develop their musical experiences. Specialist resources to support dance and drama, both through workshops and school productions, further supports schools in the delivery of the Performing Arts curriculum.
